Firefighter Block

It's been awhile since I've done any paper piecing, but today I share with you my version of Whims and Fancies Firefighter block.  I bought this pattern from my friend Soma who designed it as a fundraiser for firefighters.  If you have not already, please consider purchasing it or the companion embroidery pattern, it is a beautiful design and such a worthy cause  :)
I am so proud of my brother in law who is a firefighter.  They are true heroes.

A bit of Sewing

I have simply lost the motivation to sew this last month...I have been working on other things but for some reason haven't been much in the mood for quilting.  The weather is gloomy and overcast and rainy and cool - usually that would cause me to run to my sewing machine but I ended up there today for a different reason...

I needed to finish the October step for Meadow Mist Design's Magnolia Mystery QAL - http://meadowmistdesigns.blogspot.com/2017/10/magnolia-mystery-quilt-my-half-geese.html

And sew together the pieces I cut out awhile ago to make the first of two Chuckles fish blocks for the Awesome Ocean QAL I am playing at with Colette.
Both these projects have been great fun but I just lost the momentum these last few weeks...I finally got back to it because I needed to clear space on my cutting table in order to do a bit of paper piecing of this pattern I bought from my friend Soma who designed it as a fundraiser for firefighters.  If you have not already, please consider purchasing it or the companion embroidery pattern, it is a beautiful design and such a worthy cause  :)

September Already?

Time is moving faster than I am these days!

Been awhile since I posted, but not much I can share as much has been secret sewing.

Prayers are being lifted here for all affected by hurricane Harvey and we are watching Irma close as we have family in Florida that appear to be in the path.

I did get September's clue done for the Magnolia Mystery http://meadowmistdesigns.blogspot.com/2017/08/magnolia-mystery-quilt-cutting.html.

That chartreuse just wakes you up doesn't it?  :)

And here is the first of two Octavian the Octopus blocks I am planning to make from the Awesome Ocean Elizabeth Hartman pattern that Colette from What About Rheema so kindly sent me in a surprise package last week.  I held off for a couple days but the lure of a new project called me into the sewing room and demanded I make this first block this afternoon.  I am wondering if the fussy cut beady eyes may be just a bit too much??  Thank you Colette, you shouldn't have but as you can see it is entertaining me already :)

I was able to hold an octopus "hand" tentacle? one time at a visit to the Toledo Zoo when my son was small...the rascal tried very hard to remove my wristwatch.  It was very impressive to feel how strong it was!  Made me wonder if it could pull me into the tank with it...but surely the keeper wouldn't have encouraged the contact if it could have...right?

Magnolia Mystery - Cutting For Month 2

Cheryl from http://meadowmistdesigns.blogspot.com/2017/08/magnolia-mystery-quilt-cutting.html has released the second clue in her latest mystery quilt SAL.  Still plenty of time to join in, so far we have picked our fabrics (month 1) and cut some of it (month 2).  Only took me about an hour to cut this step.

My attraction to this project is a that this is another chance to stash bust a bit and that Cheryl is kind enough to send you a sneak peek of the design so you can better pick fabrics and decide whether you would like to participate...I have decided that mystery quilts are not really my thing but non-mystery mystery quilts?  Well, now you are talking :)

My X Plus Quilt is Done

I have been attacking my UFO quilt tops this summer. This is a finish for which I need to thank my friends from the Flickr bee Mo-Stash from March 2013 when I was queen bee. I made more blocks to double the size but I so appreciate the blocks made by those special ladies. This is such a cohesive quilt to have been a group effort! Love it!!

A lot of my favorite texty prints and AMH fabrics...
There is a bit more detail in this post if you want more details...http://krislovesfabric.blogspot.com/2013/02/march-is-my-month-for-modern-stash.html
My quilt buddy highly approves of this one, good thing we have air conditioning as she pinned me beneath it once the binding was attached this afternoon.
How can I resist such adoration for my quilt?!!
Or maybe it's just her cute little toes?

Have a great day!!

A Wool Wallhanging Finish

I have been using this summer to clean up some piles in my sewing room...one of those piles was full of finished quilt tops.  This is another of those that I have now finished with quilting.

It is a Buttermilk Basin (free at the time) Block of the Month design you can find here: free Buttermilk Basin Mystery QAL of 2015.
I am happy with the decision to do a kind of scribbly quilting in the background...
These designs are so cute, Buttermilk Basin never disappoints, love them!

I know this last picture is too dark but I included it because I think it shows best how the scribble quilting I did in the background makes the wool appliques pop up  :)  This piece was a practice piece to prepare for a larger quilt I am planning to quilt in this same manner.  Onward....    :)  Have a great day!!

Another Finish a Bit Late in Coming...Celtic Solstice 2013

This is a quilt I modified from a Bonnie Hunter Christmastime mystery sal from 2013, just put the last of the binding on this afternoon.

Here are my first two posts for this quilt...http://krislovesfabric.blogspot.com/2013/12/quilting-along-in-between-getting-ready.html and http://krislovesfabric.blogspot.com/2014/02/this-is-where-i-want-to-be.html...sure took awhile...hehehehe.
